Design lighting: stylish mood makers

Design lamps and lighting, what would our interior be without it

Lighting comes in all shapes and sizes. It ranges from pendant lights, to ceiling lights, to chandeliers you name it. At Whoppah, we have room for every type of luminous design object you can think of, to fill your home with handsome points of light. Lighting in the home is very mood setting, so it's important to make the right choice in lighting your interior.

Right designer lamps, right atmosphere

Lighting is indispensable in any interior. Yet it's not something we think about from moment one when it comes to decorating our home, and that's despite the fact that they are so crucial to the atmosphere. Just consider how cosy lights can make it at night or how good they are at highlighting a specific piece of furniture or artwork. In need of a mini-metamorphosis? Then start with a clean slate of designer lamps. The type of lamp, style and type of lighting have what it takes to completely change the look and feel of a room. From serene and relaxed to luxurious and even glamour-ish. To give you an idea: a chandelier made of Murano glass gives a completely different effect than if a white ceiling lamp is hanging. Or take a vintage table lamp which again diffuses different light than a standing modern designer lamp. So it's good to think about the desired lighting effect and the style you want to set.

Create optical illusion with designer lighting

Did you know that you can make a room look bigger with the right lighting? Is like this. How to pull that off is actually quite simple. Here are three tips:

Tip 1: Avoid a clump of designer lamps

Make sure all design lamps are spread throughout the room. One big light source on the ceiling is never going to create spaciousness. So the advice is: mix and match x-number of design lamps which you spread throughout the living room, dining room or bedroom. Floor lamps in the corners, pendant lamps for a portion of central light and wall or table lamps to highlight a piece of furniture or art object here and there. Multiple lamps means multiple mood levels.

Tip 2: Go up high

Make room for tall designer pendant lights and make the room look bigger in one fell swoop. Or fall for multiple pendant lights in different lengths. This will emphasise the height of the room.

Tip 3: Mirrors

Hang your designer lamp in front of a mirror. An old, well-known interior design trick that still works well. Hanging the design light in front of the mirror reflects the light and makes the room look bigger.

Second-hand designer lamps and Whoppah

You see, designer lamps are more than just a light; they can actually be a statement piece in their own right. At Whoppah, we have a wide range of second-hand designer lamps. Brands like Flos, Artemide and Louis Poulsen are known for their beautiful designer lighting. Lighting that is also an excellent buy second-hand, as they simply last a very long time. The same can be said about the classic or Space Age-style lamp, such as the Sputnik design lamp or a Vetri design lamp made of Murano glass. From well-known design classics like the Pipistrello and the Oluce Atollo to modern design lamps by Tom Dixon and Modular. Plenty of choice! And if not, you always have our Vintage Lamps collection.
