Balenciaga

Cristóbal Balenciaga opened his first Spanish boutique in 1917 and his Paris couture house in 1937, and was the designer other couturiers studied. The bag that defines the house secondhand arrived much later: the City of 2001, with its motorcycle hardware, studs and slouchy lambskin, the off-duty bag of an entire decade and now firmly back in demand. Le Cagole and Hourglass styles carry the attitude forward. Lambskin ages honestly, so condition photos matter more here than with most houses.
