Until 22 August, the Centre Pompidou is hosting a unique retrospective devoted to one of France's greatest designers: Pierre Paulin. A must-see event, we couldn't miss such an exhibition! So we headed to the museum's south gallery to see and appreciate his work, exhibited over 800 m2! [caption id="attachment5472" align="aligncenter" width="644"] Source: G. MEGUERDITCHIAN / CENTRE POMPIDOU[/caption] Source: G. MEGUERDITCHIAN / CENTRE POMPIDOU[/caption] Remember, a few months ago we invited you to discover the portrait of Pierre Paulin through an article retracing his life and work. We talked about his interest in modernity, his Scandinavian influences, his attraction to Japanese style and, of course, his desire to design simple, functional and durable pieces. But in the end, what could be better than an exhibition to capture the full extent of his genius? Through the hundred or so objects on display (furniture, drawings, models, etc.), the "Pierre Paulin" retrospective aptly retraces the designer's 40-year career. The visit is structured around several highlights. You'll be delighted to discover his work for Meubles TV: [caption id="attachment5458" align="aligncenter" width="795"] [caption id="attachment5458" align="aligncenter" width="795"] Furniture produced in the 1950s[/caption] The fruit of his collaboration with the publisher Thonet: [caption id="attachment5459" align="aligncenter" width="801"] Oyster armchair (1952), Steel wire seat (1955) | Chaussette seat 1957[/caption] But also Pierre Paulin's emblematic works for Artifort: [caption id="attachment5477" align="aligncenter" width="928"] F300 armchair (1964), Big Tulip armchair (1965), Groovy armchair (1972) | Orange Slice armchair (1960), Concorde bench seat (1966)[/caption] [caption id="attachment5478" align="aligncenter" width="928"] Tongue armchair (1967), Artifort chair (1960), Mushroom armchair (1963), Little Tulip armchair (1963) |Multimo armchair (1975)[/caption] The retrospective is also a unique opportunity toto discover some exceptionally rare creations: [caption id="attachment_5464" align="aligncenter" width="775"] Pacha chair (1970) | "Elysées Salon des Tableaux" chair (1971) and Mobilier National coffee table (1970)[/caption] "Elysées Salon des Tableaux" chair (1971) and Mobilier National coffee table (1970)[/caption] But also to understand Pierre Paulin's creative approach through his various drawings, as shown in the photos below: Of course, many other pieces of furniture, sketches and even lighting fixtures are on display! Whoppah explores: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

The chair was exhibited in 1929 during the World Exhibition in Barcelona and is one of the best-selling designer armchairs ever. It is amazing how a chair has not lost its popularity for more than 90 years and remains a symbol of elegant and modern design.
