Hans J. Wegner designed the chair in 1949, inspired by the styles of traditional Chinese chairs with curved backrests. The design is a tribute to his philosophy blending simplicity and functionality. The chair originally went into production in 1950, manufactured by the brand Carl Hansen & Søn; it has since become one of the most iconic designs in their collection. Each Wishbone chair is handmade and requires more than 100 steps to complete in its manufacturing process.
