Woodworking through time Woodworking through time The exhibition traces the major innovations in woodworking. Divided into two sections, the exhibition begins with a look back at the historical context and the technical developments surrounding wood, an ancestral composite material essentially made up of fibres and resin. For centuries, attempts have been made to tame it and make it play ever more varied roles. It was first carved, and then, in the nineteenth century, the possibilities multiplied: with the discovery of bending, which involves the addition of moisture, but also of hardened wood, which, thanks to moulding, reveals complex patterns. The 20th century saw the development of other processes: plywood, glulam and, in the 21st century, retified wood. The exhibition retraces the major innovations in woodworking.
